BRIEF HISTORY :

Hanseswari Temple is a Temple of its own kind with 13 conical sikharas decorated with lotus-petals. The sanctum contains a wooden image of four-handed Goddess, called Hamseswari. It was built in c.1814 AD. On the other hand, Vasudev Temple is a remarkable specimen of the Bengali hut-roofed Temple surmounted by an octagonal sikhara. The temple walls have exquisite ornamentation in terracotta and carved bricks.

Dutch Cemetery together with all tombs & monuments contained therein.

BRIEF HISTORY :

This old Dutch Cemetery contains numerous tombs or mausoleums. The oldest grave is that of Sir Cornelius Jonge, who died on 10th October, 1743 AD.

Dutch Memorial monument of Susana Anna Maria

BRIEF HISTORY :

This monument is built on the mortal remains of Susana Anna Maria and is locally known as 'Sat Saheber Bibir Gor'. Raised on a five-stepped square podium, this structure consists of two storied octagon, the upper storey being similar to that of ground storey. The super structure comprises of a short drum belonging to c.19th century AD.

Group of temples known as Brindaban Chandra's Math

BRIEF HISTORY :

The four late mediaeval Temples in a group is known as Brindaban Chandra's Math. Out of these, Brindaban Chandraji's and Krishna Chandraji's Temples are of Atchala type. Ram Chandraji's Temple is an Ekratna Temple and is having beautiful ornamentation. The other is known as Chaitanyadev Temple, which is the oldest in the group. These Temples were constructed by different persons in the c.17th-18th century AD.

Mounds

BRIEF HISTORY :

There are a number of mounds which have yielded Kushana, Gupta, Sasanka's and Akbar's coins. Trial excavation by the Archaeological Survey of India yielded pottery and stucco heads of the 5th - 6th century AD.

Minar

BRIEF HISTORY :

The Minar 125 ft in height was made by Shah Sufi, a Muslim Saint. Its shape and size mark it out as a Victory tower and as such it must have been one of the earliest buildings erected at Chhota Pandua, name by which the place is called. This round tower breaks into five stages or storeys and the probable date of this Minar is around c.1200-1300 AD.

Mosque

BRIEF HISTORY :

The Bari Masjid, one of the earliest Mosques in Bengal is a long low building having three aisles, with 21 openings in front and 3 on the sides. The roof has 63 small domes resting on brick arches springing from stone pillars of Hindu Temple designs. A beautiful canopied pulpit is also provided within the Mosque, datable to c.1200 - 1300 AD.

Mosque and Tombs

BRIEF HISTORY :

The Mosque devoid of any roof or dome has ornamental works in brick. One Arabic inscription engraved on stone slab on the front wall of the Mosque records its erection during the time of sultan Nusrat Shah by Sayyid Jamalud-Din Husain of Amul in 1529 AD. At the enclosure with three tombs Sayyid Fakhrud-Din, his wife and his eunuch are said to be buried.

Danish Cemetery

BRIEF HISTORY :

This Danish Cemetery contains tombs dating back to c.1781 AD, among which mention may be made of Colonel Krefting, the Danish chief and Director, who died in c.1828 AD, of Hohlenberg, another Danish Governor died in c.1833 AD and of General Mainwaring, author of Lepcha language dictionary, who died at Srirampur.

Shrine and Mosque known as Dargah of Zafar Khan Gazi

BRIEF HISTORY :

Located at the far side of an elevated compound is a multi-domed Mosque, in which the number of doors in the east equals the number of Mihrabs in the back wall. The mosque is the first available example of the brick and stone style and is far advanced than the Qutbud Islam Mosque in Delhi. At the front part of the complex are located two roofless square chambers, one at the east contains graves of Zafar Khan Gazi, his sons and a daughter-in-law while the other one contains graves of another son and grand sons. In the construction of both the Mosque and Dargah profuse use of carved stone members of various religious affiliations are noticed. The mosque was constructed in 1298 AD.
