About the Horticulture Branch
The Horticulture Branch of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) was established in 1950 to design, landscape, and maintain historical gardens and green spaces around centrally protected monuments. It protects monument microclimates, improves site aesthetics, and prevents illegal encroachment.
Gardens under the Kolkata Circleकोलकाता मंडलকোলকাতা মণ্ডল
There are seventeen (17) Archaeological Gardens located under three (3) Sub-Circles in the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Circle — eight (8) under the Bishnupur Sub-Circle, six (6) under the Kolkata Sub-Circle and three (3) under the Kalna Sub-Circle. Total garden area coverage is 58,164 sqm (14.37 acres) in the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Circle.
