About this monument

The Synagogue, placed on a high plinth, is to be accessed by climbing a flight of fifteen marble steps. The staircase is flanked by one room each side. The room on the right serves as the office and that on the left has inside a staircase leading to the upstairs. One central door and two subsidiary doors, all wooden, give entry into the central hall. The pulpit, placed on a platform, is enclosed by railings richly ornamented with silver plates. The extreme end of the hall is oval shaped. This section is richly ornamented. The skylight over it has different types of coloured glass panes. The marble staircase on the exterior is noticeable for its beautifully executed steps. Also attractive are the huge glass panes, some of which are stained, and the centrally placed big clock. The tablet at the entrance indicates that the Synagogue was built in 1856.
