About this monument
The temple, according to its foundation inscription, was built by Vira Saha (wrongly read by many as Vira Simha) in 1622 and dedicated to Siva, the only Saiva temple in this sacred fane of Vishnu. It is made of laterite and facing east it rises in two stages. The lower stage is cruciform and the smaller upper stage is octagonal. The latter has arched opening on its each side. An eight sided dome surmounts the monument. Through the ages, the temple underwent successive renovations affecting its original look.
