About this monument
The mound is locally known as Ballaldhipi. During 1982-88, the Kolkata Circle of Archaeological Survey of India conducted excavation at the site and exposed a huge brick structure and various antiquities datable between c. 10th and 12th centuries A.D. The brick structure includes shrines on sides and a massive construction within an enclosure. It is a Panchayatana temple complex. Among the antiquities found there, stucco heads possibly of Buddhist affiliation and copper objects used for religious purposes are noteworthy.
