About this monument
The Deul i.e. temple is traditionally connected with an inscription (not traceable now) of one Raja Jayantachandra purported to have been issued in 975 A.D. An earlier photograph goes against this dating and suggests its apparent resemblance with the Siddesvara temple at Bahulara (Bankura District). However, a close observationof the temple may bring the temple even later than the Bahulara example. Unfortunately the predatory restoration of the temple has destroyed most of its decorative and architectural features prohibiting a proper evaluation of it. Recently, Kolkata Circle of the Archaeological Survey of India has been conducting excavation to clear the accumulation of earth at the base of the temple. The excavation has already established that the temple was saptaratha in plan.
