Radhamadhab Temple

About this monument

Belonging to the group of temples located to the south of the Lal bandh stands the impressive laterite temple of the ekaratna type. On the south, it has a triple-arched opening which gives access to the oblong corridor. In the back-wall of it is the arched opening to the sanctum cella. The eastern wall of the temple has another corridor which has a three arched opening. At the base of the temple are depicted rows of birds and animals and Puranic episodes. On the side wall and lower part of the cornice exist elaborate sculptural reliefs shown in a very graceful manner. The area by the side of the arches and the pillars are also embellished with relief decoration dealing with various themes. The major area of these decorations is filled with scenes showing the Krishnalila episodes, Dasavatara and floral designs. The temple has the compliment of a Bhogamanda (refractory hall) of the dochala type, a unique feature not found with any temple at the site. The temple was built by Siromanidevi, a consort of Vir Simha, in 1737 A.D.
