About this monument
At Dihar two temples stand on the western bank of the Darakeswar. One of them to the north of the other is locally known as Sailesvar, a corrupt form Sailesvara. Built of laterite stone, it stands on a cruciform plan and once was roofed by a curvilinear ridged sikhara in conformity with the two basic characteristics of the nagara style. At present only a few ridged courses are preserved in the lower part of the sikhara. Stucco plaster on the temple finished the crudely sculpted figures on laterite ground. This plaster has disappeared almost altogether exposing the laterite base. On stylistic ground and in consideration of medium of construction, the temple is to be dated during c.14th century.
