About this monument
The Minar, an architecturally interesting monument, rises in four gradually diminishing disproportionate storyes which are placed one above the other as individual entities. The Minar, standing near Bari Masjid, is brick-built and plastered by surki mortar. Its damaged upper part was restored in 1907. Today, it is 127’ high. Inside the Minar is a spiral staircase which leads to the topmost storey. The purpose of building the tower is not very clear. It may be a Majina (Muajjin) tower or a Minar built to commemorate a victory over an anonymous adversary. There is also a possibility that it was a watch tower. According to local tradition, the Minar was built by Shah Sufi but such a tradition has no corroborative evidence. The archaic look of the Minar suggests that it was built in the experimental period which may belong to the 13th-14th century A.D.
