About this monument
The temple is brick-built and faces east. It has a cruciform plan and a towering sikhara rising perpendicularly before taking an elliptical turn near the peak. It is bereft of any decorative element except two niches topped by a cusped arch each. One of them houses a female figure probably of a divine nature and the other contains a flower design. The sanctum has a domed ceiling. The temple underwent some faulty restoration work destroying several of its early features. Tradition ascribes the building of the temple to Ichai Ghosh, a legendary local chief. The architectural features of the temple suggest that it was not built before the 16th century A.D.
