About this monument
The site was jointly excavated by the Archaeological Survey of India and Burdwan University. The excavators found at the site a sequence from the chalcolithic period to c.12th-13th centuries A.D. Also remains of a brick-built Buddhist stupa was unearthed by the excavators. The drum and a trace of the dome can be recognized nowadays. The stupa may be assigned to a period during the 9th-10th century A.D.
